Automatic Vehicle & Equipment Identification (AVI/AEI)

Within the AVI/AEI application areas three sets of standards have been developed. These sets are mainly toolkits used as building blocks in other standards, or directly to implement ITS applicaitons.

  • The first set defines basic identifiers for road vehciles and equipment. This includes the basic registration for operators and manufacturers of ITS systems as found on this website.
  • The second set of standards is mainly aimed at goods transport scenarios
  • The third set is the Electronic Registration Identifer, and can be seen as a electronic licence plate including vehicle registration information.

ERI and AVI/AEI  is standardised in EN 16312 as a stand-alone application to enable interoperability.
